Inspiration for image-making often comes from social interaction. These moments are important and humanity will always be a rich source of material, revealing interest and priorities, hegemony and mores, networking and relationships. Whether directly involved or as an observer, I enjoy the encounters and making references to moments where individuals have come together and are sharing spaces.
‘Transience’, is an image based on a moment of interaction where family and friends came together at an exhibition of art. The shared moment reflects the placement of their value and support. As the figures appear to communicate, sharing a moment, the composition is intended to encourage viewers to feel less of an observer and more as a participant, merging and completing the gathering. Importantly, for me, an aesthetic experience lies somewhere between these integral components: the work, the audience and the encounter. Interestingly, each of these components, and even the memories of them, are at times short lived, impermanent quickly passed over.

Singing Gates
acrylic and charcoal, 48" x 36"
Gates have long featured in the art of Bermuda. Situated along picturesque roads and offering glimpses into beautiful private gardens and vistas, gates also represent denial and control. Gates have also become associated with scandal and politics. I use this familiar icon in this series of four paintings to represent local sites of resistance.

Isscoldondeebike is something all Bermudians understand. It’s something we all know. Isscoldondeebike is a colloquial utterance expressing our subconscious need to have our vulnerability validated and shared.
The aim of this exhibition is to give platform to uniquely Bermudian expression about what it is to be Bermudian, at a skill level that makes our experience internationally accessible and relevant. We want to professionally communicate what is endemic to the Bermudian perspective.
Don’t simply illustrate how cold it gets on the bike. Don’t make pretty pictures of Bermuda created by following the algorithm of self-censorship we conform to when creating banal decoration. Reach into what makes your identity Bermudian and be brave enough to share it.

Submission Guidelines
• Artists are invited to submit work to be juried for the Isscoldondeebike Exhibition, sponsored by The Centipede Art Movement.
• Jurying is to be done between November 28, 2025 and December 12, 2025.
• Up to 3 works of art may be submitted for consideration.
• Fresh works are desired, but if you made art in the last five years that still hits hard, it belongs here.
• Every piece submitted will be titled Isscoldondeebike and distinguished by the artist’s name.
• If more than one of your works is accepted into the show they will be titled numerically as follows:
“Isscoldondeebike 1”, artist’s name,
“Isscoldondeebike 2”, artist’s name,
“Isscoldondeebike 3”, artist’s name,
All mediums are eligible for submission, including but not limited to, paintings, sculptures, photography, installations, performance, poems, etc. Communicate with Centipede as you develop your work with questions about what will be possible in the installation time and gallery space.
Any medium is acceptable if it is a genuine expression of the endemic Bermudian perspective and experience.
$30.00 Application fee per artist or group.

or email requested details to: centipedeartmovement@gmail.com
or deliver a printed form to Michael Walsh, Senior Art Lecturer at Bermuda College.
2. Pay the $30.00 application fee to

Submitting the application form and paying the application fee will grant you:
A. The opportunity for your work to be juried for potential inclusion in the Isscoldondeebike exhibition.
B. Inclusion in the Q&A Centipede Art WhatsApp group chat
C. Dialogue and critique with the Centipede Art Movement during the conception and creation of your artwork for Isscoldondeebike in order to receive feedback to develop your artwork, concepts and practices.
Phase 2- Deadline November 28, 2025
1. Submit completed works PHYSICALLY to Michael Walsh in the Art Department at Bermuda College.
2. Submit high resolution documentation photographs of your submissions via email
3. Submit an Artist statement specific to your submissions (300 word limit) via email
• Submission deadline: November 28, 2025
• Artwork delivery date: November 28, 2025
• Exhibition date: January 23 2026 – February 17, 2026
• Opening event: January 23 2026
General info
• This is a juried exhibition.
• The works for exhibition will be selected by a committee formed by the Centipede Art Movement.
• Centipede reserves the right to refuse any work that does not arrive on time, or is poorly framed (presented).
• The decision of the Selection Committee is final.
Successful applicants can expect:
• To have their work included in the exhibition at Bermuda Society of Arts in January 2026.
• To be part of a network of exhibiting artists.
• To be included in a public panel discussion about the show.
• To be exhibited internationally if funding is realized.
Centipede has the right to reproduce works in connection with the exhibition. The copyright and all other intellectual property rights will remain with the artist. If any rights are owned by a third party, that third party will remain the owner.
